| PMP Workshop - Organised by SEQ Catchments for 6th March at 10am – 3pm (with BBQ) at Coominya Hall Cat’s Claw Field Day - On 26th February with morning tea included – for more information please contact Robyn – robmac@uqconnect.net Atkinson/Buaraba catchment description: Buaraba Creek is located in the northern Lockyer Valley and forms part of the western headwaters of the Brisbane River Catchment. The sub-catchment covers an area of 39,895 hectares, extending west to the Helidon Hills and forms the lowest tributary flowing into Lockyer Creek. The sub-catchment is located in the Shire of Esk. Significant tributaries of Buaraba Creek are Verandah Creek, Yellow Gully and Running Creek. Atkinson Dam is a major off-stream water storage supplying irrigation water to farmers. The capacity of Atkinson Dam is 31,300 megalitres. The main population centres are Coominya and Lowood. The rest of the sub-catchment is farming land and small acreage. Who we are Atkinson/Buaraba Catchment Landcare Group (ABC Landcare) was formed in 1994 to address water quality and quantity issues. Successes of ABC Landcare include monitoring and protecting the water quality, initiating improved water capacity, creek bank stabilisation activities, weed control, property planning support, a variety of field days and information rights, activities with schools and scouts, and improving general land and catchment management practices through education and awareness.
